Thermo-Staat

The Thermo-Staat project, led by Waag Society Foundation in collaboration with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, VPRO, and TU Delft, focuses on measuring temperature and humidity in various homes while engaging citizens as experts of their own living environments. This innovative citizen science initiative aims to enhance climate literacy and generate actionable insights about how people experience their surroundings during heat waves. Using advanced sensors and a comprehensive public program, the project has gathered valuable data that informs strategies for improving indoor climate resilience in the face of rising temperatures.

This project represents a dream endeavor due to its significant impact on community awareness and climate adaptation. By empowering citizens to actively participate in data collection and analysis, Thermo-Staat not only fosters a deeper understanding of environmental challenges but also builds a supportive community around climate action. The methodologies developed can be easily scaled to other regions facing similar climate issues, demonstrating the project’s scalability and potential for broader application. Furthermore, the innovative approach of combining citizen science with journalistic efforts has garnered international recognition, highlighting its pioneering nature. As Thermo-Staat joins the IMPETUS Accelerator Programme, it is poised to continue its momentum and explore further opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing across Europe, ensuring that the lessons learned will benefit a larger audience and contribute to climate resilience efforts worldwide.
